Greetings!
Valentine's day is just around the corner and while
most people think of roses and heart-shaped boxes
of candy on February 14th, I've often associated St.
Valentine's day with Thanksgiving and Christmas.
While history doesn't definitively know how it all
started, I look at the day as a wonderful opportunity
to shower loved ones with gifts of my love and
appreciation for all they've done.
So this Valentine's day I encourage you to take the
opportunity to show those in your life whether it be
friends, colleagues, children or your spouse how
much you
are thankful for their presence in your life.
All the best,
Lisa Marie Platske, President

After working in the financial services industry for
almost 10 years and commuting throughout Southern
California, Ms. Melanie Jones envisioned opening a
business that would provide her with a creative
outlet. Searching for an organization in the service
related field, Melanie wanted to make others smile.
With the support of her husband, Melanie researched
12 different franchises before buying Candy Bouquet
International. She has built a large clientele and her
business continues to grow monthly. Presently,
The
Candy Lady is a home-based business, which
allows
her to keep operating costs at a minimum, however,
her leadership plan and vision includes opening a
store-front within the next two years and a second
location a year later.
A delicious alternative to flowers, Candy Bouquets
are unique, colorful and delicious and won’t die, wilt
or fade. Client appreciation gifts, baby showers,
birthdays, Christmas, Valentine’s Day etc., any
occasion is a great occasion for a Candy Bouquet!

Are You Ready for Some Football? |

Superbowl Sunday brings back some of my fondest
childhood memories. Because my sister, Pamela, and
I spent lots of time with my grandparents and my
grandfather always thought he’d be blessed with
grandsons (which didn’t happen until much later in his
life), Pamela and I watched football all day every
Sunday during football season and learned more
about the sport than you could ever imagine.
Superbowl Sunday was almost as big as Christmas.
Aunts, uncles, cousins, actually most of my family,
and my grandparents friends gathered at “The Club”
to eat, drink and watch the action.
This year the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Seattle
Seahawks in what looks to be an exciting match-up.
Being a Pennsylvania girl, my heart lies with the
Steelers and I’m hoping to see them take it all. While
their franchise has been around since 1933 and
they’ve seen Superbowl action 5 times in the history
of the club, Seattle has a tough offense. But,
business sense tells us that everything rises and falls
on leadership - creating commitment, creating a
vision, building a team and getting the best from
people. A leader takes us to a new place.
In only his second year as an NFL quarterback, Ben
Roethlisberger has demonstrated strong leadership
skills. As Alan Keith of Lucas Digital said, “Leadership
is ultimately about creating a way for people to
contribute to making something extraordinary
happen.” All I know is that Roethlisberger’s influence
has had a powerful effect on his team and they’ve
shown that they’re better with him than without him.
Did you know?
The old U.S. Steel Corp. Steelmark logo, seen on the
Steelers helmet, meant "steel lightens your work,
brightens your leisure and widens your world." I've
been known to say Upside Thinking does all that, too!
