Are You Addicted to Overwhelm?

You probably wouldn’t mind being a little bit sexier.
Since being “busy” and “multi-tasking” has become attractive qualities in the business world, you may just think that this is the answer to increasing your appeal.
Maybe that’s why you toggle back and forth between Facebook and email, glancing back and forth at your obnoxiously long to-do list wondering how it’s all going to get done today………
…..and then daydreaming about time off, wondering how you ever got “here”.
On your lunch break, you read articles designed to get you stressed out about all you’re not doing but “should” be doing if you want to be successful.
Stop. The. Madness.
There is a MEGA-myth in business that if you master the art of multi-tasking or doing more, you’ll be free.
And, that’s just crazy-talk.
A load of hooey.
When I talk about positioning your expertise, it’s about using what you’ve got, not adding 50 more things to your list.
You’ve got talent.
You are a problem solver.
And, you get things done.
But, busyness doesn’t = business.
And, multi-tasking actually prevents you from being efficient or effective.
When you’re in a tailspin all day long, no one can see your brilliance or benefit from it
My 5th Pillar of Leadership is Creating a Meaningful and Memorable Presence.
That means letting go of what’s not serving you including your addiction to overwhelm.
Research shows that most stress is self-induced from a pattern of thinking about circumstances that are out of your control.
Like other people’s email.
If you’re serious about being sexier, then you’ve got to overcome your addiction to overwhelm.
Your presence will be more inviting and you’ll actually be more effective.
ACTION ITEM: The Upside Challenge this week is to say good-bye (yes, good-bye) to one thing that doesn’t belong on your list of things to do because it doesn’t enhance your expertise.
You are amazing.
And, you’ve got talent.
But, what got you here, won’t get you there.
