Are You a Bold Leader?

Have you ever had someone tell you what they do for a living and you felt like you were slimed?
Yep.
Me, too.
The world is craving authenticity and yet, there are tons of people out there teaching the outdated 30-second intro or worse reciting a canned script that is “designed” to impress you.
Ugh.
The world is made for those who stand out, not those who fit in.
I teach leadership and have been doing it for over 20 years.
This wasn’t a fly-by-night topic that I decided to study because it seemed cool.
No, this is my life’s work and passion.
As Vince Lombardi said,
“Leaders aren’t born, they’re made. And, they’re made like anything else, though hard work.”
Now, I’m willing to drop the word “hard” in the equation but the bottom line is that leadership is about influence, nothing more and nothing less, and that’s a skill that can be developed.
Whether you’ve ever considered yourself a leader or wanted to be a leader, know that you need to be one if you want to grow your business, get promoted, or do great things in the world.
And, it’s really pretty simple.
If you do not have a sphere of influence, you are not a leader.
Building your influence takes time and intention.
When I first opened the doors to UPside Thinking eleven years ago, I was looking for a shortcut – a methodology that could easily explain what the most successful people I knew were doing that got them great results.
Leadership Qualities
This led me down the path to formulating the 7 Pillars of Leadership.
And, I’ve discovered that when something isn’t working in a client’s business or their leadership development plan at work, it’s usually because something is off in this arena or their internal superpowers aka mindset matters.
While a small shift can make a big difference, it takes skill to master the 7 Pillars of Leadership.
I spend three days explaining this at Design Your Destiny LIVE™ but here is the cliff notes:
- Pillar #1: Start with a Written Plan.
- Pillar #2: Know Your Personality.
- Pillar #3: Build Powerful Partnerships.
- Pillar #4: Live Your Priorities.
- Pillar #5: Create a Meaningful and Memorable Presence.
- Pillar #6: Evaluate Your Progress.
- Pillar #7: Invest in Professional Development.
Action Item:
The Upside Challenge of the week is to identify which of the 7 pillars needs your attention right now. What will you do to invest in your success?
The world is made for those who stand out, not those who fit in.
