I Did It and So Can You!

By facing my fears, I’ve been more and more of myself. I did it and so can you because you have powers beyond anything you can imagine.
Several months ago, I posted a Facebook Live video.I did it and so can you - Upside Thinking Inc.
It wasn’t something I had on my to-do list — and I didn’t know that when I woke up that morning that I was going to be going live on video.
When my mentor challenged me to do this on-the-spot and asked the topic, I choose “fear” as it was what was going through my mind.
And, as it turns out facing fear is a subject I know well.
Even while I was sharing my message, I was working on moving through my own fear.
Fear is defined as “an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat” when used as a noun or “to be afraid of (someone or something) as likely to be dangerous, painful, or threatening” when used as a verb.
The name of my business is Upside Thinking and so I rarely talk about fear, opting for a subject that is, well, more Upside.
And, the area in which everything in my life overlaps is vulnerability.
When I am not being open, real and authentic, there is a disconnect between me and myself as well as between me and others.
While I would like to believe that leadership is my special sauce, it’s really my courage and willingness to be vulnerable in public.
It’s not that this is comfortable; it’s just necessary.
I’ve long felt that it is a contract between my soul and God.
I continue to get pushed and prodded to open my heart and show that which I would prefer to keep private.
By doing this, I’ve been more and more of myself.
…..Not the “me” that was fabricated from the thoughts of others; rather, the “me” that was who I was called to be…..my destiny.
You have powers beyond anything you can imagine.
If you are not experiencing them, you are not connected to what makes you who you are.
One of the elements that may be getting in the way is fear.
Cultural norms force three fears on you.
- You are not worthy or enough.
- If you get it wrong, no one will like you and you will be alone.
- The world is an unfriendly place. You are unsafe, can be harmed, and can’t trust others to be there when you need them.
If you hang on to any of those fears –
- You will look for external validation of your goodness, worthiness, and brilliance.
- You will seek out others to fill your emptiness.
- You will hide your gifts, talents and abilities in exchange for perceived safety.
Ultimately, your special powers will be cased in cement so you can’t use them to live out your big mission in the world.
I Did It So Can You
Yet, if you can step beyond these fears and tap into what is amazing about you, you will be amazed by the miracles you can create.
Now, I’m not saying that this is a magic pill to cure all in your life right now.
For me, it is an unfolding.
The journey of 1000 miles starts with a single step.
I’ve been walking this journey for a while.
I’m figuring I must be on step 357 by now.
How about you?
