How Clear is Your Vision of Your Future?

Greetings, Lisa Marie,
Happy Memorial Day to my American friends!
I am sending much love and gratitude out in honor of the men and women who have given up their life so we can enjoy freedom in the United States of America.

What do you think your life will look like in several years?
Will it be filled with joy and contentment, laughter and love?
Or, will it be wrought with an unsettledness and lack of meaning?
The images that appear in your mind today will reveal what you expect from your future.
I’m amazed at how many people I get to work with in my coaching programs are fuzzy about what they want, or how their language paints pictures that are dull and sometimes even fearful.
One of my clients a few weeks ago was incredibly overwhelmed thinking about what she wanted.
She asked me if everyone struggles with this.
From what I’ve seen, yes.
99 out of 100 people find it challenging to create a clear vision. (At least that is what the instructor shared with me years ago when I was taking a leadership course….)
How much time do you spend in meditation or conversation about the vision of what you want your life to look like?
And, if you have that clear and unwavering vision, have you used it to build a plan that is strategic and will get you what you want?
Because Starting With A Written Plan (Beginning with the End in Mind) is the 1stPillar in my 7 Pillars of Leadership, I’ve been going back to my bigger “why” for the business and spending time discerning what I want over the next decade.
In thinking about my vision, I realized that my husband is going to retire in 4 short years.
As Jim and I drove to my parents for Mother’s Day weekend, we had 3 ½ hours in the car to talk about Upside Thinking, Inc., his passions, and the years ahead.
I checked in with him about what he saw for our future – and if we were moving in the same direction.
We both opened up about our dreams to travel and continue to enjoy every moment together.
Yet, I realized during the conversation that we both were a little fuzzy about what we actually wanted (the specific details) – and agreed to visit this topic again.
I’ve been visualizing greater depths of love and understanding in my life…peace and presence.
And, because faith is an important part of our journey, staying true to what God wants for us.
I’m really clear that whatever road we choose, Jim and I will walk it together.
I’m also clear that even when you think you know what you want, you still have to ask yourself the 3 questions from my 1st book Designing Your Destiny again and again –
- Who Am I?
- What Do I Want?
- Why Does It Matter?
CALL TO ACTION: The Upside Challenge this week is to spend time in discernment for your own future. Who are you? What do you want? Why does it matter? I promise that if you take 10 minutes a day, you will be amazed by what you learn about yourself.
Remember, life is change. Growth is optional. Choose wisely. Live Upside.
P.S.- If you’re struggling to create a written plan that gets you what you want, join me in Alexandria, VA (right outside Washington, DC) for step-by-step guidance in my proven 7 step system at my 2-day Leadership Success Summit Intensive Retreat.
