Choosing to Enter the “No Excuses!” Zone

Greetings, Lisa Marie,
- “I’m super busy.”
- “I don’t know how I’ll ever get it all done.”
- “I’ve got way too much to do right now and I’m feeling overwhelmed.”
- Have you ever said any of these phrases out loud?
How often?
- Once a month?
- Once a week?
- Once a day?!? (Be honest….)
Priorities.
Living Your Priorities is the 5th Pillar in the 7 Pillars of Leadership that I talk about at my annual Leadership Success Summit in January, and my upcoming Leadership Success Summit retreat in July.
(The rockstar testimonials I’ve received over the years have led me to lead with the 7 Pillars model in my coaching and presenting, too.)
Priorities are what you spend your time, money, and energy on — and may be different than what you tell your friends and family members are important to you.
Do you know what yours are?
One of the priorities that I hear people struggle with the most is health.
Oh, sure, they get that health is important.
But, making the time and actively choosing to put their health first is the challenge. (I know I’ve had my past struggles in this area…..)
Sometimes it’s because of family guilt or putting themselves first.
Sometimes it’s even because of a crazy story in their head about how old they are.
For me, it was realizing that by making my health numero uno in my life, I could be the best version of myself for my loved ones and clients.
Whatever you want in life, you have to be willing to enter the “No Excuses” zone to get there.
One of my favorite stories is about Sister Madonna Buder, known as the Iron Nun.
She’s a “no excuses” woman who has proved that age is not an obstacle for getting in shape.
Buder, a 83-year-old Roman Catholic Religious Sister from Spokane, Washington, is the current world record holder for the oldest person to ever finish an Ironman Triathlon.
She began training at age 48 (which is considered extremely late in life) and was 52 before she completed her first triathlon.
Sister Madonna has now completed over 325 triathlons including 45 Ironman Distances, and in 2012, she became the oldest Ironman world record holder by finishing the Ironman Canada at age 82.
She’s raised money for various charities and shares that she strives to use her talent “for the greater good.”
Her autobiography, The Grace to Race: The Wisdom and Inspiration of the 80-Year-Old World Champion Triathlete Known as the Iron Nun is worth reading.
CALL TO ACTION: The Upside Challenge of the week is to identify where you’ve been making excuses in your life. What will you do to re-commit to what you want with your health, wealth, relationships, or time? What is one action item you will take this week?
You won’t get to where you want to go if you don’t live your priorities.
And, the world needs you and your brilliance.
Life is change. Growth is optional. Choose wisely. Live Upside.
