Loving All the Parts of ME

Okay – so this week’s Upside Thought is a little bit on the mushy side.
And, the challenge may make some of you uncomfortable but I invite you to continue this journey with me as it all does have a purpose.
Who Am I?
What Do I Want?
Why Does It Matter?
These three (3) questions are integral to discovering your authenticity.
And, yet, like hundreds of thousands (maybe even millions) of people on the planet, I couldn’t answer them.
Until I could.
It was a little past 40 when I discovered the authentic me…
…the me that would occasionally show her face but would quickly hide for fear of not being liked.
The real me would peek out every now and again and often be reprimanded for being “too much” or “too bossy” or “not nice” — or a whole host of other comments that simply didn’t feel good.
So, I hid – and hated all of the parts about who I was that elicited those comments.
- My boldness.
- My willingness to speak up for the powerless.
- My ability to have an opinion.
-
As I continued on my leadership journey and did what I do well – research – I discovered the power of love and acceptance.Upside-Thinking-Lisa-Marie-Platske-Love-Yourself-April2016-300-pic
While the ability to know and love all of me didn’t happen overnight, it was one of the greatest lessons I’ve ever learned in my life as it related directly to me being able to live out my mission on planet Earth.
And, from this full acceptance came a strength that I didn’t know existed.
The confidence and power that grew from the depths of my being was like coming out of a deep slumber to now having every cell light up within my body.
When you learn to love who you really are, you open yourself up to unlimited possibilities.
When I opened the doors to Upside Thinking, I spoke and wrote about how “You are where you choose to be.”
This is because you are ultimately responsible for the outcome in all areas of your life.
And, it’s much easier to contend with this reality when you know who you are, what you want, and why it matters.
You move from being asleep to living an intentional life – on purpose and fueled by passion that is unstoppable.
But, you cannot do that if you only love and accept part of what makes you who you are.
You’ve got to love and accept what makes you angry or unkind.
You’ve got to love the parts of you that push you to lie or cheat.
You’ve got to love the parts of you that make you seem ugly.
And, that’s the difficult part of it all.
Action Item:
The Upside Challenge of the week is to simply utter the words “I love you” to yourself ten times a day – and mean it.
You are where you choose to be.
